Our Story begins with Homer A. Thrush

Our Roots In 1923, Homer A. Thrush started the H.A. Thrush Company with his invention of the first circulator pump to move hot water through a residence, greatly improving the then-standard “gravity” hot water heating systems, making homes across the country more comfortable and economical for thousands of families.

The success of that business provided an opportunity for the Thrush family to give back to the community by launching the H. A. Thrush foundation in 1936. From the outset, the foundation endeavored to make an appreciable difference in the lives of people through the financial support of many worthy organizations. For decades the foundation supported primarily Miami County Indiana organizations such as the Miami County YMCA, Thrush tennis courts, and the Peru Circus to name just a few.

Moving into the 21 st Century, the foundation turned to supporting a broader based central Indiana region (and beyond) without forgetting its Miami County roots. Since inception, the Thrush-Thompson foundation has provided over $10 million in grants to more than 200 not for profit organizations supporting community service, education, athletics, and religious activities.

Through now almost 90 years and 5 generations of careful and professional management, the family has remained true to the original vision of the Thrush and then Thompson family to make a positive difference in people’s lives.
